People sharing a relaxed gathering around a table in the countryside

An invitation, in two words

What does
Zou Qinqi mean?

Zou qinqi means “visiting relatives” in Chinese. It brings to mind arriving at someone’s home, sitting down for a meal and catching up without watching the clock.

Our seven-day experience takes that feeling as its starting point. We want to introduce you to village life through time spent with people, rather than a list of places to tick off. You do not need family connections in China to be curious about this way of visiting.

For travellers from overseas, people already living in China and those reconnecting with their roots, it offers a closer look at daily life — and a first sense of what spending more time here could feel like.

A taste of what could unfold

Small moments.
A different view of China.

These are ideas drawn from life in Ourland’s villages, not a fixed itinerary or a list of included services. The final programme will reflect the village, season and people involved.

01

A first hello

Get to know the people and places around you. A village story can begin with a name, a doorway or a familiar face.

02

Food with a story

Discover the ingredients and everyday dishes that connect a place to its fields, kitchens and shared tables.

03

Time outdoors

Notice what is growing, follow a village path and look at the landscape through the changing season.

04

Something made by hand

Explore the pleasure of working with natural materials and learning through the simple act of making.

05

Everyday culture

Make room for tea, local customs and conversations about how people live. If dates coincide, seasonal traditions may offer another window into village life.

06

A story to take home

Leave space for reflection: a favourite conversation, a photograph, a new interest or a different idea of life in China.

From village life to shared memories

Do a little.
Notice a little more.

The seven-day programme is being developed around encounters like these. Specific activities and their availability will be confirmed before you make a booking.

Follow the season

Planting, gathering or simply observing: time outdoors makes the connection between landscape and daily life easier to see. What is possible depends on the season.

Along the lanes

Get to know a neighbourhood

Paths, gardens and familiar meeting places reveal how a village fits together. Visits and conversations can bring the people behind the scenery into view.

Around a worktable

Let your hands lead

Local craft and creative activities offer another way to connect. The materials, maker and setting give each experience its own character.

People enjoying a warm conversation during a village gathering
In good company

Make time for one another

A shared table or an unhurried conversation can be as memorable as a landmark. The spirit of visiting relatives is to be present, listen and join in.

Get to know the setting

Real villages,
each with its own story.

Ourland’s villages in Shanghai and Shanxi have different landscapes and ways of life. Our village pages introduce that wider story; they do not mean every place is included in a single seven-day visit.

We will confirm the destination and route with the programme. In the meantime, explore the places and the experiences that inspire it.

Before you come
